About the role:

As a Trainee Support Dog (TSD) Handler, your role is to handle and advocate for our team of Trainee Support Dogs at community events and engagements. You will be responsible for ensuring the dog's wellbeing, monitoring their behaviour, and creating positive and safe interactions with members of the public.

While handling a dog, you will also represent Guide Dogs by engaging with the community, sharing information about our organisation, and helping people learn more about the important role our dogs play.

Important: TSD Handlers work with Guide Dogs' Trainee Support Dogs at approved events and engagements. This role does not involve handling dogs or puppies that volunteers may have in their care through other Guide Dogs programs, such as Puppy Raising or Boarding.

Key Responsibilities

Handle Guide Dogs' Trainee Support Dogs at community events and engagements.
Follow Guide Dogs handling guidelines and procedures.
Monitor and respond appropriately to dog behaviour and body language.
Engage with members of the public and answer general questions.
Support positive interactions between our dogs and the public.
Represent Guide Dogs in a professional and positive manner.

Passionate about dogs and animal welfare.
Friendly and confident engaging with a wide range of people.
Observant and attentive to dog behaviour.
Comfortable in public and community settings.
Enthusiastic about supporting Guide Dogs' mission.
