Christmas Volunteer Boarding Carers (Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast)

Make a difference in a dog’s life and the lives of people with low vision or blindness. 

Guide Dogs Queensland is seeking expressions of interest from flexible and caring boarding carers in the Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, and Gold Coast regions to support our dogs over the busy Christmas period

About the Role 

As a boarding carer, you’ll provide a safe, comfortable, and nurturing environment for one of our dogs for short-term placements. We are particularly looking for people to assist over Christmas, but ongoing roles are available as well.

You’ll have the full support of our team and receive all the skills, equipment, and guidance needed to care for the dog. All expenses including food, equipment, and veterinary costs are covered by Guide Dogs Queensland. 

Typical responsibilities include: 

  • Feeding, exercising, and providing companionship to the dog 
  • Administering any required medication 
  • Ensuring the dog sleeps indoors and is not left alone for long periods (usually no more than 4 hours) 
  • Following basic handling and care techniques provided by our team 

Time Commitment 

Boarding care stays may vary. We are looking for people to primarily assist during our Christmas closure. Most stays will generally be 1-2 weeks, but longer stays may also be available.

Who We’re Looking For 

  • Dog lovers who can provide a safe and comfortable home environment 
  • People who are flexible, reliable, and able to respond to short-notice boarding needs 
  • Individuals able to transport the dog in their own vehicle, including pick-up and drop-off 
  • Committed volunteers who can spend significant time with the dog during their stay 
  • Volunteers with a valid driver’s licence and access to their own vehicle 
  • Ability to follow Guide Dogs handling and care guidelines
